sWiMmInG!!!

I know this is hard for most of you to believe - but my girls (Sue's grandchildren) do not know how to swim yet! SHOCK!!! OK so give me a break - we live in Oregon where it rains a ton and there are not swimming pools in the back yard here like at home in California. If we want to go swimming, we go to the pools at the community centers. The girls have swim lessons twice a week for a half an hour. They LOVE it and are getting braver & braver with each lesson. I think I better hurry up and sign them up for lessons in August before all the classes are full. This first picture is Ashlyn with her instructor Jordan.

1st Summer Field Trip

This is the first of many field trips for Kenna this summer. If I am able to go along on the field trips - then Ashlyn can come also. The first field trip was to Build A Bear. The girls each got to pick out their own animal. Kenna picked a Hello Kitty doll and named it Hello Kitty (very original) and Ashlyn picked a white dog with red & blue stars and named it Star-Berts!

New Photos of Kenna

Here are a couple new pictures of Kenna taken by Miss Kamina. This first one reminds me of something you might see in The Shining - I really like it is a creepy sort of way! Check out Miss Kamina flickr site for a bunch of really cool photos!!

Field Day!!

So I am using photos that I have uploaded from my Blackberry for the first time. they are not the greatest - but I wasn't plaanning on going to Kenna's field day today and so I wasn't prepared. I did not have my camera with me. What is field day you ask? It is the last day of school and all the fifth graders put on a day of fun out on the field at school. They played vollyball with beach balls, had a ginormous parachute, water games, potato sac races and soccer through the cones relays. All the kids has a BLAST! Here are a few photos that I took.

Ashlyn's Pre-Kindergarten Graduation

Ashlyn had her pre-kindergarten graduation today. Hopefully she is off to Kindergarten this Fall. Because her birthday is October 14th and the cut off for Kindergarten registration is September 1st, Ash has to be tested to see if she is ready to start Kindergarten. We think she is! CONGRATULATIONS to our little Claire Bear - we LOVE you!

What a Special Treat!!

We got such a special treat today! It is Rose Festival time in Portland and it is Fleet Week this week which means that the ships came into town. What a surprise to find out that cousin Joey and his ship were here. He invited us to come down and take a tour. Of course I jumped at the invitation - what a GREAT experience for the girls to see a United States Coast Guard ship. I guess I should correct a few things - We got to visit Food Service Specialist First Class Joseph Cleary on the USCGF FIR #213. It is not actually a ship or a boat as we learned today - but a cutter. Brad, Kenna, Ashlyn, my father-in-law Dick, my brother-in-law Steve, my nephew Walter and I all went to take the tour with Joey. It was his day off and I am so thankful to him for the wonderful experience. We came with MANY questions and stayed way longer than we should have. He took us to see so many things that the normal tour was not allowed to go. We even got to see where he sleeps and of course Ashlyn had to check out the bathroom - which she said on our way out "momma this is NOT a pretty bathroom", leave it to Ash to check out the bathroom anywhere she goes. We had a BLAST learning all about the things that he does while at work. Thanks so much Joe Joe Bean - we LOVE you!! Take a look below at our adventure from today.

They Both FINALLY Did It!!!

Kenna came to me a few weeks ago and said that she was finally ready to get her ears pierced. SHe also had a "great idea". She thought it would be fun to have grammy come and do it with her since grammy has been a chicken also. She figured that if she was finally ready to get it done, grammy would be ready.

So I had Kenna give grammy a call and let her in on the big idea. Grammy was in (I think she thought she would have to be brave) we kind of suckered her into it. She has been saying forever she was going to do it - but never did. This way she was able to share it with her oldest grandaughter. What a special thing to share. Congratulations Kenna & Grammy - you both look FABULOUS!!!
